Saturday night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, The Canucks and Flames squared off for the second time in as many nights. The earlier matchup between the two, Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, ended in a 4-1 victory for the Flames. The Flames also won the mandated overtime period for the preseason game, leaving their bitter rivals thirsty for revenge on Saturday. The Canucks came out firing quick and took the lead at 9:55 of the first period, when Brendan Gaunce piled in a rebound shot off the left pad of Karri Ramo, coming off a quick shot from Radim Vrbata. The glory would only last for so long as Brandon Bollig would add tallies at 16:41 of the first, and 00:25 of the second. Through out the rest of the second period the Canucks piled on the offense and came away with a 16-4 shot advantage and tied the game at 2 going into the third.

Back and forth the game battled on, the Canucks with the momentum, but the Flames with the heart. Finally at 12:18 of the third, Canucks fans got what they wanted, a goal and a lead off the stick of Alex Friesen. However, disaster would strike once again as the Flames tied the game with around 7 minutes to play in the third. With the last of the mandated preseason overtimes coming to play, the Canucks and Flames were in for a battle. It is important to notice that throughout the whole game, players played as if it was a regular season game. Little tricks here and there. As the overtime period started, it was a toss up who was gonna take the game. However just 1 minute and 37 seconds into the overtime period Josh Jooris banged home the final goal.
The Flames victory will stick with the Canucks fans until they meet up again. The rivals from the 2014-2015 playoffs, still have some bad blood to settle in the future. These two preseason games will excite NHL fans around the league who love a good rivalry. With the absence of many real rivalries remaining in the league, Canucks and Flames fans are lucky to hold such a spot in the league as many viewers will be flowing to their channels.
